Your Source for the Best Mailbox Solution
SwingClear is a family-run mailbox post company owned and operated by Steve and Katie Stuart out of Ashland, WI. We take pride in our products, which are made from high-quality materials and feature top-notch craftsmanship. Our goal is to provide you with a durable mailbox solution that works for a lifetime.
After purchasing the company in 2021, Steve and Katie prioritized having a new manufacturing facility to enhance their already-proven product (proven since 1946!). They created a streamlined manufacturing process and upgraded all their products so their finishing process involves powder coating instead of painting.
In addition, they designed a base driver to make mailbox post installation a simple, one-person process. Base drivers are now included with every post, emphasizing our goal of ensuring our customers enjoy a positive, hassle-free experience when purchasing our product.

History of SwingClear
SwingClear began in 1946 when a young Leonard Hagstrom returned from the WWII Air Corps. He was an inventor and machinist who wanted to create a simple rural mailbox solution. He made a mailbox post with the vertical mailbox support off the roadway and the mailbox on a boom over the shoulder of the road.
The boom would swing away and right itself without complicated springs or return mechanisms if the mailbox or post was impacted by passing winter plows.
Although it was a simple design for a seasoned inventor like Leonard, he obtained a design patent for his unique mailbox solution. He went through numerous prototypes before perfecting his mailbox post. The first test happened on his farm and his brother-in-law’s farm next door. These rural mailbox posts are still in service today, over 75 years later.
Growth over the Years
Leonard’s current models evolved after years of reworking the basics and trying different variations. Their simplicity, ease of installation, and ability to eliminate snow shoveling were the hallmarks of their design. His mailbox solution was so widely accepted that the trademarked look became a standard for residential and rural mailboxes in the Northern Midwest.
Ask anyone who has had one, and they will say, “If you live in the country and you don’t have a SwingClear, you need one.” Our mailbox posts can last a lifetime with only minor maintenance. Their quality impressed the US Postal Service, letter carriers, and county highway departments. Frequent endorsements also came from people who can now get their mail without removing snow around their mailboxes.
Everyone loves how installing our mailbox solution can be done in the summer or winter in only 15 minutes. The SwingClear mailbox post has been a resounding success over the years and continues to grow to serve our customers.
